Document Actions
Dear Madame/Sir:

The FP6 project, GridCoord (http://www.gridcoord.org), has been funded to develop methods and means of improving the co-ordination and collaboration amongst funding bodies, policy makers and leaders of Grid programmes across Europe.

In order to collect the publicly available information on national/regional Grid Initiatives across Europe, and to ensure that the information is up to date we are contacting policy makers, Grid leaders etc. like yourself with a request and a plea to spend a few minutes of your valuable time and fill out a web questionnaire located at

http://www.gridcoord.org/grid/portal/questionnaire/

Please follow the registration procedure before filling out the questionnaire form clicking here

Your answers will be used to prepare a "Survey of national Grid R&D Initiatives across Europe".

The questionnaire is targeted to collect information about "Initiatives" and "Projects". The term "Initiative" refers to large programmes (at national or regional level) that are composed of several projects (e.g., ACI GRID in France, D-Grid in Germany, e-Science Initiative in UK, etc.). The term "Project" refers to a project that is part of an initiative. The questionnaire is divided into two sections, namely

  • 1. Rationale and Objectives
  • 2. Initiative /Project Survey Form
  • 2.1 The Contributor
  • 2.2 Initiative / Project Details
  • 2.3 Already Planned / Future Initiatives
  • 2.4 Comments and Suggestions for the GridCoord Project
  • 2.5 Private Comments

It is our intention to make this information publicly available. If you wish to remain anonymous please mark the questionnaire accordingly. Not all questions are compulsory, however, we would be grateful if you could answer as many questions as possible on behalf of the institution you represent (or work for).

Thank you in advance for your time and contribution. We believe that your valuable contribution will help us to prepare a report which will be of great benefit in promoting Grid R&D activities throughout Europe. For more information about the project please see at http://www.gridcoord.org If you have any questions or issues, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely, Domenico Laforenza, Roman Tirler and Marco Vanneschi

Questionnaire:

Survey of National/Regional Grid initiatives/Projects and their economic impact

This questionnaire is targeted towards funding bodies, policy makers and leaders of national/regional Grid initiatives across Europe. The answers contained in it will be used to prepare a "Survey of national Grid R&D initiatives around Europe".

1. Rationale and Objectives

There is a strong need to improve the co-ordination amongst funding bodies, policy makers and leaders of national/regional Grid initiatives across Europe. Currently funding is available from Member States and Regional Authorities, in addition to the funding available from the European Union through a wide range of programmes. For Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) different levels to improve co-ordination are suggested. An important suggestion is the co-ordination at the strategic level by addressing the roles and the responsibilities of the funding authorities. Measures at implementation level are also suggested based on the experience of the members in applying for funding. The suggestions build on previous successes resulting from co-ordination in the ICT fields.

The proposed survey will:
  • Review national/regional initiatives/projects and their economic impact;
  • Investigate individual Member States funding, objectives, and current achievements;
  • Examine how National co-ordination has been achieved;
  • Identify possibilities for joint initiatives in Grid R&D;
  • Summarise links to international developments and standardisation bodies;
  • Examine range and type of industries involved in Grid projects;
  • Provide input for a comprehensive ‘Gap Analysis’ to identify areas which need funding (a follow-up report).

The principal aim of the survey is to improve the co-ordination of national research programmes in the field of Grid research.
